Fred A. Welch

Welch obit picCA memorial service was held Jan. 22 at the First Baptist church, Wetumka, for Fred A. Welch.
Mr. Welch was born Aug. 30, 1942 in Greensboro, N.C. to James and Etta Frazier Welch and died Jan. 18 at his home in Wetumka at the age of 71.
He grew up in North Carolina and graduated from Aycock High School in Greensboro. After high school he worked as a mechanic. In 1961 he married Margaret Dail with whom he had four children, Fred Jr., James, Penny and Russell. In 1964, the couple suffered the loss of their son, James, through death. In 1967, they moved to Oklahoma where she succumbed to a sudden illness and died.
In 1969 he married Linda Tanner Richards. They were happily married for 43 years. She brought to the union three children, Vickie, Carla and Mike. In December 1970, they added to the family a seventh child, Angela (Wendy). In 1999 through adoption, they added Isaac and Larry, making the child count nine.
Mr. Welch moved to the Wetumka area in 1982 and enjoyed the ranchers style of living. He enjoyed horseback riding, hunting, fishing, watersports, tinkering in his shop, old western movies and traveling. However, he enjoyed his family the most. He was a big man with a big heart who loved his family and cherished his friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents, James and Etta Welch; his spouse, Margaret Dail Welch; son, James C. Welch; great grandson, Joshua Welch; brothers, Thurman (Boots) Frazier and Bobby Gene Welch; and a sister, May Kennedy.
Survivors include his spouse, Linda, of Wetumka; children, Vickie (Gene Scholl of Castle Rock, CO.; Carla (Dave) Conners of Ben, OR; Mike (Jennifer) Tanner of McKinney, TX., Fred (Noel Welch of McKinney, TX., Penny (Dale) Perkins of Alpena, AR.; Russell (Marsha) Welch of Dallas, TX., Angela (Matt) Vance of Okemah, Isaac Welch of Okmulgee, and Larry Welch of Ft Riley, KA.; sisters, Frances Freeman of South Carolina and Shirley Frazier of Liberty, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Interment will be in the Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home of Wetumka.

Gloria Faye (Williams) Ruiz was born June 8, 1931 in Stuart to George and Frankie (Daniels) Williams and died Dec. 6, in Tucson, AZ. following a long illness. She was one of 13 children.
She was one of four sets of twins for the Williams family. She attended school at Lamar and had many friends. She was a gracious lady who enjoyed cooking, painting and quilting. She and her husband traveled to several foreign countries for his work. She always enjoyed going back to Lamar for the homecomings and reunions. She had a contagious laugh and a smile for everyone.
Preceding her in death was a daughter, Mary Elaine Kearney; a son, Ronald Edward Murphy; and siblings, Carl, Lois, Ray and Richard.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest Ruiz; a son, Jerry Murphy; six grandchildren; and 10 great grandchildren.
